ACT ONE, SCENE 1: POOL, HOT SUMMER’S DAY
FARMER’S FOSTER MOM: Farmer! Farmer! Come out of the pool! Someone wants to meet you. Come on…Farmer!
FARMER: (IN PUAGELSE) But Mom, I’m pug swimming -you know, sitting here on the first step all wet having a good ‘ole time with foster brother Cyrus. I don’t want to get of the pool…not yet! This is such fun! (FARMER CONTINUES SWIMMING)
FOSTER MOM: Come on Farmer, tell these nice people a little bit about you so you can find your forever home.
FARMER: (EXCITEDLY) Forever Home? Forever Home? Oh! OK! I’ll get out of the pool for THAT!
(FARMER JUMPS OUT; MOM DRIES HIM OFF)

FARMER: Where do I begin? Well, I am a boy, I think about 8-9 years old but I’m not really sure cuz the nice folks at APARN found me.

I have been staying with my foster parents while I recover from some burns I have on my back. The vet says I am a healthy boy overall and the burns are healing nicely but I will have a scar from them. They did hurt, I got to admit, but I was very brave - at least that’s what my Foster Mom keeps telling me! She also says I am “special” - no one’s ever said that about me before and it makes me feel so happy. She also says not to worry about my scars because I am a handsome boy and there is a wonderful, loving, forever family out there for me who will see how “special” I am - and they will love me, scars and all! Because I am “special” - see?

I love to play with my foster pug brother and sisters, and I even am kind to my 19 year old foster sister kitty cat. She walks on me - literally - but I just let her! Oh, and I love the ladies…I follow my Foster Mom everywhere. She calls me her “velcro pug.” I even sleep in bed with her. But I bark whenever I see a man I don’t know. I did that a little bit the first day with my Foster Daddy, but then I realized he loved me and all was fine. See, I just need to know that I am safe, and loved. In exchange, I will give you everything a pug can give - my big brown eyes, my curly wagging tail of happiness, my undivided attention and loyalty, but most of all - my unconditional love.

So, that’s it. Do you think maybe you are that forever family my Foster Mom has been whispering in my ear about? The one that helped me believe when I was in pain from the burns that it was worth it, cuz there are nice people out there who will love me, scars and all? If so, please fill out an application, or let the folks at APARN know you are interested in meeting me at an event. I’ll be the handsome guy -  the “special” one!
I sure would love to meet you!

ACT TWO, SCENE 1: ADOPTION EVENT, NEAR FUTURE
FARMER: Mom, is that them? Is that my forever family? The ones you told me about, that filled out the application?
FOSTER MOM: Yes, Farmer, that is your forever family and they are here to pick you up - and guess what? They have a POOL!
