Hi everybody. I’m Forrest.
I am a three year old deaf pug. Don’t worry, even though I cannot hear you, I see fine and follow hand commands pretty good.
What’s that you say, why am I deaf? You see, prior to coming to APARN, I had some bad ear infections that were left untreated. The nice people at APARN took me to the vet, and even to a dog neurologist (I must be very special to receive such good treatment).
The good doc said even though my ears look good today, the damage has already been done.
How does that affect me you ask? I sometimes walk in circles. I am dizzy a lot because of my inner ear damage. But just put me in a harness and take me for a walk, and I walk just like the other dogs. Doc says it is because the harness gives me support and security.
Do I have special needs you ask? No, not costly ones. I do need to eat Natural Balance Venison and Sweet potato dog food. It’s pretty good, and several stores carry it. Doc says it keeps the ear infections down, as there is nothing in it that would cause any allergies for me.
I also have an eye that was somehow damaged in the past. Doc says nothing serious, but some day, when I am older, it may be dryer that my other eye. Foster Mom watches it all the time, as she does with all of my foster brothers and sister. Foster Mom says pugs everywhere need special eye care because we have the biggest, most beautiful eyes of all. So this is not a special need.
What do I like to do you ask? Play, play, play, collapse from exhaustion and snuggle right next to you! In fact, Foster Mom got me a new toy for being so good with Doc, so I think I am going to go play now.
See, I answered all your questions without hearing a word. Aren’t I special? Please come and meet me soon.
Love, Forrest
