Hello -
My name is Scotty and I came to APARN from the Humane Society. I am about 2 years old. I suffered severe trauma to my head and jaw. My eyes hurt very badly and I lost my sight due to the trauma. The nice vets at the hospital decided to ease my pain and removed both of my eyes and put a wire in my jaw. The stitches were removed last Friday and – keep your fingers crossed…if all goes well the wire will be removed from my jaw in about 5 weeks. While I was still staying at the Humane Society I was neutered as well. I am still taking some antibiotics and I will need to eat soft foods until my jaw is all healed. I feel so much better already!

My foster parents came to pick me up at the clinic and I was thrilled to go home with them. When we got home I got to meet all of the other dogs and the children. I am pretty easy going and like everyone. You might think that I would be very shy, but I greet and kiss everyone that comes to visit. I have learned my way around the house and I even know how to use the dog door. I do very well with going potty outside.

My favorite things to do are to sit close to my foster mom, to play with stuffed animals and to steal toys from the other dogs. Foster mom bought me some pillows and she lays them on the floor for me to rest on while she is on her computer.

I am still adjusting to being blind and for now it scares me when I cannot be with foster mom. I like her or foster dad to be close to me where I can smell, hear and feel them. If I am left alone in a room I will cry and call for them. Foster mom has started with the kennel training, but I do not last longer than 10 minutes so far. Me crying in there breaks her heart ;) ! But we will continue to work on this. Foster mom says that it is important for me to learn that the kennel is a safe place for me if she ever had to leave the house. For now she stays home with me or she will ask foster dad or her 12 year old daughter to keep me company. At night I get to sleep in bed with them. This is my favorite part of the day. Snuggled close to them, warm and safe. In bed I do not need to worry that they might sneak off or about any other dog stepping on me etc. As soon as my paws hit the bed I melt.

I did take the time to write a letter to Santa. Foster mom said that sometimes the wishes of little foster dogs like me come true on Christmas.

Dear Santa,

My name is Scotty and I am a wee blind Pug boy. Life so far has not been that great. All I want for Christmas is a loving forever home. I would love to find a home with a human that is home a lot and maybe some older children. Another dog is a must, so I have a sense of belonging to a ‘pack.’ Sometimes I get scared still, because I cannot see. If the home came with a comfortable bed that would be fantastic!

Thank you Santa,
Love, Scotty
