Vet Resources

When you walk by a pet store in the mall it is hard to pass by without looking at the puppies. When you go in and see the adorable little dogs that are for sale it is hard to resist the impulse to purchase one. Before you do this please educate yourself. Most pet store dogs come from "puppy mills" where puppy are churned out in volume to be sold like livestock to stores. Most have deplorable living conditions for the dogs and are disease ridden. As long as the dog looks good the puppy mill is happy - they will knowingly continue to breed hereditary problems into their puppies like demodectic mange, eye problems, pug dog encephalitis and much more. Please go to the following websites before buying a puppy from a store.

We also suggest you do not buy one advertised in the paper. Many of these dogs are being bred by people regardless of the health history, temperament, or confirmation of the parents. They are either ignorant, wanting to breed their :great" dog, or feel that it is an easy way to make money. Don't be swayed by "papers" it doesn't mean your dog is show quality or breeding quality - it means your dog is recognized by the AKC, nothing more. Really these dogs are just being added to the pool of unwanted pets being put to sleep each day across America.

So how do you find your puppy? Find a reputable breeder by contacting local organizations or the Pug Dog Club of America - these people spend much more on breeding than they get back for the puppies - and you can be assured that your puppy is a result of good breeding and no known hereditary health problems. A good breeder will not advertise in the paper and you may need to wait - but it will be worth it!

Education can eradicate ignorance!
